Signs of Adventure
Signs of Adventure was commissioned by Cumbria Tourism as part of their Capital of Adventure campaign. The client wanted to show the variety of outdoor activities across the county whilst branding the Lakes as an exciting and forward-thinking place to visit.
Working to an initial list of ideas from the team, I created a series of signs based on Department of Transport specifications to be placed and photographed at a variety of locations around the county. The Cumbria Tourism team were also keen for me to redesign the 'Elderly People' sign to challenge the stereotype of the Lakes as a retirement destination.
The signs were fabricated by a specialist road sign manufacturer and comply with Department of Transport standards to ensure authenticity.
Portable posts were designed and constructed to be carried in a landrover and small helicopter for quick photo-shoots on fell tops.
The campaign photos were shot in a day across the lakes by the clients team and images released to the media.
The signs have subsequently been given to Art Roots at Grizedale Forest to create a new route around the Forestry Commission land. A free guide is available at the visitor centre, or to download here.
